The Mystery of the Synodic Month

The moon has been a source of wonder for millennia. But did you know that the time it takes for the moon to return to the same phase—known as a synodic month—is actually 29.53 days?

Why 29.53 days?

While the moon orbits the Earth in about 27.3 days, the Earth is also moving around the Sun. This means the moon has to travel a bit further to reach the same relative position between the Earth and the Sun.

Impact on Age

Every year, the lunar calendar “loses” about 11 days compared to the solar calendar. This means that if you are 33 years old in solar terms, you are actually about 34 years old in lunar terms!

Our calculator handles all these complex mathematical transitions for you, ensuring you always know your cosmic standing.
